IW Insulated Wire
Founded in 1970, IW developed a unique PTFE lamination process and applied it to manufacturing wire and cable. This process allowed IW to manufacture products of unprecedented reliability along with smaller diameters. Combining the new lamination process along with a patented shield design allowed IW to become one of the leaders in low loss microwave transmission lines, utilizing both solid and expanded PTFE dielectrics. In 1988, IW expanded its operations and created a Microwave Products Division.
Today, IW designs and manufactures a wide range of cables to support demanding customer application specific requirements for high-performance cable assemblies operating at frequencies up to 67GHz, across a range of diameters from .050? to 0.500? diameter. IW also offers a broad selection of connectors in order to provide our customers the proper cable assembly for specific applications. IW operates in two facilities. Headquarters and cable manufacturing are located in Bayport, NY. The Microwave Products Division, responsible for the sales of all microwave assemblies, is located in Bethel, CT. Both are ISO 9001:2008 certified with AS9100.
IW serves a broad range of both military and commercial markets. These include telecommunications, data links, satellite systems, airborne electronic warfare and countermeasures, missile systems, UAV applications, avionics and instrumentation, fire control systems, medical electronics, and geophysical exploration.
All cable assemblies are built to customer specification using the most advanced equipment and procedures including IPC-WHMA-A-620 trained technicians for soldering. All assemblies are tested for VSWR and insertion loss before leaving the factory. Phase matching, amplitude matching, and time delay measurements up to 67 GHz are available when required. We can provide either in-house or an external laboratory for environmental testing such as humidity, salt spray, vibration, thermal shock, flex testing, as well as other unique requirements. Engineering support is also available for optimal cable/ connector configuration in rack systems, black boxes, and other packaging areas where transmission line performance is critical to the overall system performance.

Ethernet – Contactless Data & Power Transmission (NEW)
Ethernet is used as a standard interface for data transmission and SPINNER has developed a contactless coupler (also referred to as a module) that can be provided with different inner diameters.
In contrast to transmission by means of a traditional slip ring, the Ethernet module also supports Gigabit Ethernet irrespective of the dimensions, while the correct standard is detected and transmitted automatically (10 Base-T (10 Mbit/s) or Fast Ethernet (100 Mbit/s) or Gigabit Ethernet (1 Gbit/s) – i.e. Plug and Play.
The mechanical system has been designed in such a way that one or two transmission modules can be incorporated, also in combination with the DC/DC converter described below. The converter has been designed so that more than 50 watts with 24 V output voltage are still available to the user in addition to the rotor’s own power supply.
Without requiring any adjustments, the data transmitter is fully compatible with Profinet (class A + B); a version with CAN bus (repeater mode up to 500 Kbit/s) is also available.
Our contactless power transmission system is a rotationally symmetric system for contactless transmission of electrical energy. This transmission system is used for the DC voltage supply of control systems, sensors or other consumers on rotating shafts.
The functioning of the transmission system corresponds to that of a galvanically isolated DC voltage transmitter. It keeps the output voltage nearly constant regardless of the load and over a wide input voltage range. The output has a short-circuit-proof and open-circuit-proof design. A major advantage is the presence of a hollow shaft, which means that combinations with optical single-channel or multi-channel rotary joints are possible for data transmission. This DC/DC converter meets all standards common in the industry with respect to safety, interference immunity and emitted interference.
In the radar technology sector, the trend towards installing active components directly on the antenna is continuing. The radical reduction in cabling saves weight and increases the efficiency of the system. However, ever increasing amounts of data with high transmission rates also require demanding digital data transmission solutions. For radar rotary joints, this means that traditional HF modules for the different frequency bands are replaced by diverse media couplers, power current and signal transmission paths.
Transmission amplifiers, now installed on the
rotatable part of the radar antenna, require media couplers to create a cooling circuit in order to ensure cooling. Power current is traditionally supplied by means of a slip ring. The electrical signals to and from the active antenna equipment are no longer transmitted by a contacting slip ring but via a multi-channel fiber optical rotary joint or means of a contactless
The 4.3-10 Connector is a small, lightweight solution for indoor and outdoor telecommunications applications where high performance and low intermodulation are essential.
Small and Lightweight
These lightweight 4.3-10 Connectors are 30% smaller and 60% lighter than the comparable 7/16 square flange jack receptacle. The more compact design allows for a higher connector density on equipment and can support up to 500 Watt at 2 GHz.
Performance
The new interface design features low VSWR to cut-off frequency and a very low (< -166 dBc) passive intermodulation in both static and dynamic conditions.
Easy Installation – Screw, Hand Screw and Push-Pull
A key feature of the 4.3-10 Connector system is its reduction of required coupling torque, achieved by separating the electrical and mechanical reference planes. 4.3-10 Connectors are available with screw, hand-screw and push-pull coupling mechanisms and all utilising a common jack to simplify installation and extending the range of suitable applications.
Outdoor Applications
The 4.3-10 Connector is also suitable for outdoor environments where reliability is required. Rated to IP68 when mated, and leveraging quality manufacture techniques optimizes the connector for harsh environmental conditions.

Category 6A, 100 Ohm
500 MHz Data Transmission Cables
Giga-Ten Solution cables is a complete line of data-transmission horizontal and work area cables, designed for state-of-the-art cabling systems including Class EA of ISO/IEC 11801 and Cat. 6A of IEC 61156-5/6.
These cables are tested up to 650 MHz, and are fully compatible with the ISO/IEC 11801, IEC 61156-5, IEC 61156-6, and TIA/EIA 568C.
Cat. 6A cables come in the following designs:
- U/FTP cables grounded, where high AXT, NEXT and FEXT attenuation values are achieved by individual pair shielding
- U/FTP cables ungrounded, where high AXT, NEXT and FEXT attenuation values are achieved by individual pair shielding. These cables may be terminated with non-shielded connecting hardware with out any performance or EMC issues
- F/FTP cables, where high AXT, NEXT and FEXT attenuation values are achieved by both overall and individual pair aluminium foil shields
- S/FTP cables, where high AXT, NEXT and FEXT attenuation values are achieved by both overall copper braid and individual pair aluminium foil shields. This structure is recommended for PoE (Power over Ethernet) applications
Giga-Ten Cat. 6A Solution cables have Coupling Attenuation complying with Type II and Type I (depending on shield design) requirements per IEC 61156-5/6 therefore AXT performance is proven by design.
The cable’s high values of PS-ACR and PS-ELFEXT attenuation, and a stable 100 Ohm characteristic impedance ensuring very low Return-Loss, make it ideal for 1 and 10 GIGABIT-Ethernet applications.
All cables are available with a PVC or Flame Retardant Low-Smoke Zero-Halogen (FR-LSZH \ HFFR) jackets as well as other compounds, and in single or “Siamese twin” (FIG-8) constructions.
